Pebble Beach Golf Links, California, USA

Best Resort Golf Courses You Can Book

206 ranked courses

This is the practical category. Two hundred and six of our ranked courses are attached to a resort, which means the route to playing them is a booking rather than an introduction — no membership, no member host, no ballot. That makes it one of the two large accessible groups in the rankings, alongside public and semi-private courses, and it includes some of the best golf on the list: Pebble Beach, Cabot Cliffs, Barnbougle Dunes, Pacific Dunes and Pinehurst No. 2 all sit here. The spread of styles is the widest of any category, because resort is a question of access rather than architecture: eighty-six parkland, sixty-eight coastal, twenty-seven links, fourteen mountain, seven desert and four heathland courses. Geographically the United States leads with twenty-five and South Africa has seven, while the United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Turkey, Vietnam and Puerto Rico have five each, but the group runs through eighty countries, from Canada and Australia to Portugal, Thailand and the Caribbean. Opening dates run from Turnberry in 1901 to 2025.

About Resort Courses

Green fees in this group vary more than anywhere else on the site — from a few hundred dollars at the marquee American resorts to a fraction of that in South Africa and Southeast Asia for courses of comparable quality.
