About El Saler Golf Course
El Saler Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course on the Mediterranean shore near Valencia, with a Parador hotel beside it. Javier Arana routed it through sand dunes and Mediterranean pine forest. The wind off the sea is the main defense.
- Langer won the Open de España at El Saler twice, in 1984 and again in 1989.
- The 2003 Seve Trophy, Great Britain and Ireland against Continental Europe, was played on the course.
- The greens are large and sloping, many with false fronts and severe contours that punish a poorly placed approach.
- Practice facilities include a driving range, two approach greens, putting greens and a golf school.
History of El Saler Golf Course
El Saler opened in 1968 as a design by Javier Arana, who kept the existing pines and the dune line rather than clearing them. The course has since hosted the Open de España four times, in 1984, 1989, 2001 and 2013.
Signature holes at El Saler Golf Course
The 17th is a long par 3 over deep bunkers to a green that slopes from right to left and sits in a dune basin. The 18th is a par 4 that looks down the coastline from a sandhill.
When to play El Saler Golf Course
El Saler stays open all year, and high season runs from March to June and again in October and November.
