About Terravista Golf Course Golf Course
Terravista Golf Course in Trancoso, Bahia, is one of Brazil's most spectacular and visually dramatic golf experiences — a clifftop course perched above the Atlantic Ocean on the UNESCO-protected Costa do Descobrimento (Coast of Discovery), where Brazil was first sighted by Portuguese explorer Pedro Álvares Cabral in 1500. Designed by American architect Dan Blankenship, the course routes along Atlantic cliffs, through native Mata Atlântica forest, and across the green plateau tops that characterise this stretch of the Bahia coast. The signature hole is a dramatic par-3 playing directly over the Atlantic Ocean cliff edge to a green surrounded by coastal dunes — one of the most photographed golf holes in South America. The surrounding Trancoso village is a chic artistic enclave attracting Brazil's cultural elite, and several international celebrities and designers maintain residences nearby. The combination of world-class cliff golf, UNESCO-protected landscape, and Bahia's sophisticated bohemian culture makes Terravista a genuinely singular destination.
— History
History of Terravista Golf Course
Terravista Golf Course was developed as part of the Terravista residential estate on the cliffs above Trancoso in Bahia state, opened in 1998 as Brazil's first clifftop ocean course. American architect Dan Blankenship was commissioned to route the course across the plateau edge that defines this stretch of the Costa do Descobrimento — the UNESCO-protected coast where Pedro Álvares Cabral made his first sighting of Brazil on 22 April 1500. The challenge was to create a course of genuine quality on coastal terrain that mixed clifftop exposure, Mata Atlântica forest fragments, and the red laterite soil typical of the Bahia coast. Blankenship's solution placed the most dramatic holes on the cliff edge while routing the remainder through the native forest.

Signature Holes at Terravista Golf Course
The par-3 14th is Terravista's defining hole — a tee shot across the Atlantic Ocean cliff edge to a green surrounded by coastal dunes and native vegetation, with nothing but 100 metres of open ocean air between tee and green. It is the most photographed golf hole in Brazil and one of the most dramatic short holes in South America. The par-4 3rd plays from an elevated clifftop tee with a full ocean panorama, the drive requiring commitment on a hole where the Atlantic wind direction is unpredictable. The par-5 9th routes through the most dense section of Mata Atlântica forest before emerging onto the coastal plateau for the approach.
