Best Golf Courses in Indonesia
6 ranked courses in Indonesia
Indonesia has six clubs in this guide: three in and around Jakarta, one in East Java, one on Bintan Island and one in the highlands of Bali. Pondok Indah Golf Course in South Jakarta is a Robert Trent Jones Jr. design that opened in 1976 and hosted the World Cup of golf in 1983; from the longest tees it measures 7,243 yards. Royale Jakarta Golf Club in East Jakarta, laid out by Robert Moore Jr. of the JMP Group and opened in 2008, has 27 holes in three nines called North, South and West, set among open meadows and lakes, and the Indonesian Masters has been played there. West of the capital at Serpong in Banten, the Bumi Serpong Damai course at Damai Indah Golf opened in 1992 as Jack Nicklaus's first design in Indonesia, a par 72 of 6,545 meters where large bunkers shape the holes. Nicklaus also designed Taman Dayu Golf Club at Pandaan in East Java, which opened in 1995 on rolling foothill ground cut by deep valleys, with Mount Welirang above. Ria Bintan Golf Club at Lagoi is a Gary Player design whose 18-hole Ocean Course opened in 1998, running between tropical forest and the coastline, with a par-3 9th played over the shoreline. Handara Golf & Resort Bali at Pancasari, laid out by Peter Thomson and Michael Wolveridge and opened in 1974, sits inside a volcanic crater at 1,200 meters, where mornings often begin in mist.

About Golf Courses in Indonesia
Jakarta is the base for three of the six. Pondok Indah and Royale Jakarta both welcome visitors, with tee times arranged through golf travel agents, and Royale Jakarta is about 15 minutes from central Jakarta by toll road. Damai Indah at Serpong is a private membership club, so contact it about visitor tee times well before a trip. Taman Dayu, about an hour from Surabaya, has hotel rooms on the resort. Ria Bintan offers on-site accommodation and a nine-hole Forest Course to add, and Handara, about 90 minutes by car from Kuta, takes all visitors, with caddies as standard.
