Parkland is the style most golfers actually play: inland courses routed through trees and grass, with softer turf, defined corridors and the ball mostly flying rather than running. It is also the broadest category here, at three hundred and seventy-one courses, and the one with the widest geographic spread — the United States leads with a hundred, Spain and Canada have eighteen each, South Africa fifteen, Sweden eleven and Australia eight, and the list runs through eighty-five countries in all, from Chile and Peru to Japan, Thailand and Kenya. Augusta National sits at the top of it and at the top of our global ranking, with Oakmont and Real Club Valderrama next. The span runs from Royal Colombo Golf Club, founded in 1879, to 2024, and it covers the golden-age American clubs — Chicago Golf Club, Merion, Oakmont — as well as the modern resort construction that followed the game to new markets. Access is tight: a hundred and seventy-nine of the three hundred and seventy-one are private clubs, eighty-six are resort courses, and a hundred and six are public or semi-private.
