About Cabot Highlands
Cabot Highlands is a golf resort on the Moray Firth, about ten minutes from Inverness. Its lead course, Castle Stuart Golf Links, was designed by Gil Hanse and Mark Parsinen and opened in 2009. It is a par 72 that stretches to 7,009 yards from the back tees. Rumpled fairways run along coastal bluffs, natural bunkers sit among them, and the greens have infinity edges. The property is named for the nearby castle.
- Castle Stuart hosted the Scottish Open four times, in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016.
- Golf magazine named Castle Stuart its best new course.
- Inverness Airport is about five minutes away.
- The resort has on-site lodging and stay-and-play packages.
History of Cabot Highlands
Castle Stuart Golf Links opened in 2009 beside the 17th-century castle on the Moray Firth. Four Scottish Opens followed. Donald won in 2011, Singh in 2012, Mickelson in 2013 and Noren in 2016. Cabot acquired the property in 2022 and renamed it Cabot Highlands. Tom Doak designed a second course, Old Petty, which wraps around the castle and the tidal inlets of the firth. Old Petty opened on 15 May 2026, which gave the resort 36 holes.
Signature holes at Cabot Highlands
The 3rd is a short, drivable par 4 beside the firth with an infinity green. The 4th is a par 3 played with Castle Stuart itself as the backdrop, to a green set into the side of a hill. The 18th is a par 5 finish.
When to play Cabot Highlands
The main season runs from late spring into early autumn. The course sits on exposed coastal ground, so wind matters.
