About Somabay Golf

Somabay Golf has an 18-hole, par 72 course on Egypt's Red Sea coast, south of Hurghada. Gary Player designed it, and six holes run along the shoreline while the rest cross open desert terrain, where waste sand, lakes and bunkers shape play. A clubhouse and pro shop serve players, and The Cascades Golf Resort, Spa & Thalasso provides on-site accommodation for stay-and-play trips.

  • The course has been nicknamed the Pebble Beach of Africa.
  • A floodlit driving range allows practice after dark, and a short-game arena covers roughly 5,000 square meters.
  • The Cascades hotel offers rooms with sea or course views, a thalasso spa and a beach club.
  • Soma Bay is also known for kitesurfing, windsurfing and diving, which suits non-golfing companions.

History of Somabay Golf

The Gary Player course at Somabay opened in 1998 and anchors the resort development on the Red Sea coast, where a hotel, spa and beach club also sit.

Signature holes at Somabay Golf

The par-3 5th plays toward the Red Sea, and wind affects club selection.

When to play Somabay Golf

Somabay plays year-round in a warm, dry climate. Wind affects play, so plan your club selection around it.

Playing Somabay Golf: tips

Golf holiday operators and the resort both sell rounds, often bundled with a room at The Cascades or the nearby Kempinski hotel. Pack sun protection and a windproof layer, because wind affects play.
