Golf in Africa

Africa offers some of the most singular golf experiences on earth. South Africa alone houses more than half the continent's world-ranked courses, combining championship-calibre design with wildlife encounters and landscapes that no European or American course can replicate. Morocco and Kenya round out a continent where golf remains adventurous and authentically memorable.

About Golf in Africa

Wild settings, championship calibre. Africa's best courses pair championship-calibre design with landscapes found nowhere else on earth — from the Big Five game reserves of South Africa to the sun-bleached fairways of Morocco.

Golf in Africa is, for most purposes, golf in South Africa. The Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, and the Western Cape collectively host a concentration of world-class courses — Leopard Creek, Fancourt, and Pinnacle Point among them — that would be celebrated on any continent. The country's political history shaped who could access these courses for most of the 20th century, and transformation of the sport remains ongoing; but for visiting golfers today, the combination of quality design, professional hospitality, and extraordinary natural settings is hard to equal. Beyond South Africa, Morocco has invested seriously in golf as a tourism driver, with Gary Player-designed courses near Agadir and Marrakech offering high-quality resort golf in a culturally rich setting. Kenya's colonial-era courses in Nairobi and the Rift Valley carry considerable historic character, though the infrastructure is less developed than southern Africa. The best time to visit South Africa is April through October — the dry season, with mild temperatures across most of the country. The Cape is Mediterranean in climate, warm and dry in summer (November–February) but also playable in winter. The KwaZulu-Natal coast around Durban is more tropical, with summer humidity. Visitors combining golf with safari should plan for early departures to make the most of both.
