History of Yarra Yarra Golf Club

The club began in 1898 as Eaglemont Golf Club at Eaglemont. It moved to Rosanna around 1911 and played there until 1927, when it bought land at East Bentleigh in the Melbourne Sandbelt, a district that holds eight of the city's championship courses. Alex Russell, who had won the Australian Open as a player, designed the 18 holes on the new site, and the course opened in February 1929. Russell's layout has been restored.
