History
Ebotse Golf and Country Club was developed in the early 2000s on the East Rand of Johannesburg, with architect Phil Jacobs tasked with creating a course that would work with rather than against the Blesbokspruit Wetland — a designated Ramsar wetland of international ecological significance. The brief was unusual: design a championship-quality course while preserving and enhancing the wetland habitat that makes the site ecologically valuable. Jacobs's solution, opened in 2004, routed the course through the wetland margins, using the natural dams and reed beds as both hazards and visual features while maintaining environmental buffers around the most sensitive areas.
