About Real Sociedad de Golf de Neguri
Real Sociedad de Golf de Neguri is a par 72 course at Getxo, on the coast north of Bilbao in the Basque Country. Javier Arana laid it out, and it opened in 1961 at Punta Galea. The front nine looks out over the Cantabrian Sea and is exposed to the wind, while the back nine runs through maritime pine woods. The fairways are wide, and the greens are large, fast and contoured.
- A six-hole short course sits beside the main layout, alongside a pitch-and-putt area for warming up.
- Off the course, the club has swimming pools, padel courts and a croquet field, so it works as a full sports club.
- The ground is flat, so the course is easy to walk.
- The club has a driving range and a putting green, and the clubhouse has a restaurant and a bar.
History of Real Sociedad de Golf de Neguri
The club was founded in 1911 with an 11-hole course at Leioa, the municipality also spelled Lejona. As the surrounding area grew, the club bought land at Punta Galea in Getxo and moved there. Javier Arana designed the new 18-hole course, which was inaugurated in 1961.
When to play Real Sociedad de Golf de Neguri
The front nine plays along the cliffs and takes the northwest wind off the sea, so a calm day makes scoring easier.
