About Real Club La Moraleja
Real Club La Moraleja is a private golf club in Madrid, and its No. 4 course is the newest of four 18-hole layouts, all par 72, drawn by Jack Nicklaus's design company. Courses three and four sit together at Algete, a short way from the original grounds in Alcobendas. The fourth course is built around islands of planted greenery, gentle mounds across the ground and lakes holding aquatic plants.
- The club has four Nicklaus courses: the first opened in 1976, the second in 1990, and the third and fourth in 2012-2013.
- Course three was named the second-best course in Spain by Golf Digest in 2014.
- The practice area includes a driving range, putting and chipping greens and a bunker practice area, alongside a pro shop and cart rental.
- The club hosted the World Cup of Golf in 1992.
History of Real Club La Moraleja
César de Zulueta and Antonio García founded the club in 1973, aiming for a place that worked as an extension of members' own homes, modeled on English and American private clubs. Nicklaus designed the first course, which opened in 1976, and a second followed in 1990. The club hosted the Johnnie Walker tournament in 1981 and 1984 and the Spanish Open in 1986 and 1997. Courses three and four arrived in 2012-2013, and in 2018 King Felipe VI granted the club the Real title.
Playing Real Club La Moraleja: tips
La Moraleja is private, so a round means playing as a member's guest; the club does not sell tee times or publish a green fee. Carts are available. Course four is at Algete rather than in the Alcobendas grounds, so confirm the starting point with your host.
