About Real Golf La Manga Club

Real Golf La Manga Club is a golf and sports resort at Cartagena, in Spain's Murcia Region, and its South course is a par 73 layout, a Robert Dean Putman design from 1972 that Arnold Palmer later remodeled. Wide, palm-fringed fairways run across fairly flat ground, with water hazards in play. The club also has North and West courses and a pitch-and-putt course designed by Seve Ballesteros.

  • The Spanish Open was played here from 1973 to 1977, and its winners included Palmer, Coles and Gallacher.
  • Spain's Royal Household granted the club the Real title in 2017.
  • The resort also holds a 28-court tennis center and eight football pitches, and it has staged Davis Cup and Fed Cup ties.
  • A golf academy and driving range cater to visitors who want lessons or warm-up time before a round.

History of Real Golf La Manga Club

La Manga Club opened in 1972, and its South course quickly became a tournament venue, hosting the Spanish Open from 1973 to 1977. Arnold Palmer, who won the event in 1975, later remodeled the layout in the early 1990s. The course also hosted the European Tour Qualifying School, and in 2017 the club received the Real title from Spain's Royal Household.
