About Cabot Citrus Farms
Cabot Citrus Farms is a golf resort at Brooksville, Florida, and its main 18-hole course is the Karoo, a par 72 designed by Kyle Franz. The course measures more than 7,500 yards from the back tees, but length is not the point. Fairways are wide, in places framed by sand and waste areas rather than rough, and there is usually more than one way to approach a pin. The ground is sandy and rumpled, and the atmosphere is closer to an inland links than to a typical Florida resort course.
- The name Karoo comes from the call of the sandhill cranes that live on the property.
- The greens are bold and heavily contoured, and are where the course makes its stiffest demands.
- Several sets of tees, including combination tees, let golfers of different abilities choose a length.
- Karoo is one of four layouts at the resort, which also has a large practice facility.
History of Cabot Citrus Farms
Karoo was built on the former Pine Barrens course of World Woods Golf Club, which Kyle Franz reimagined for Cabot, the operator of Cabot Citrus Farms. The new course opened in 2024.
Signature holes at Cabot Citrus Farms
The 4th is a par 5 with a split fairway, so the tee shot forces a choice between a shorter, riskier line and a safer one. The par-3 3rd is widely singled out as one of the most dramatic one-shot holes on the course.
When to play Cabot Citrus Farms
Karoo is a resort course that takes bookings, so there is no fixed high or low season to plan around beyond the weather. Ask the resort which tee options apply on your date and book ahead if you want a particular tee time.
Playing Cabot Citrus Farms: tips
Book rounds through Cabot Citrus Farms, which sells tee times for the Karoo with several tee options. Confirm current rates when you book. The resort also has on-site lodging, so a golf trip can be arranged around a stay. Ask about walking and cart arrangements when you book.
