History
Streamsong was built on 16,000 acres of land owned by The Mosaic Company — a phosphate mining corporation that had extracted phosphate from the central Florida terrain for decades, leaving behind a dramatically altered landscape of sandy ridges, clear-water ponds, and wild native vegetation. The Mosaic Company partnered with the management company KemperSports to develop a world-class golf destination on the reclaimed land, commissioning Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw (Red), Tom Doak (Blue), and later Gil Hanse and Jim Wagner (Black) to design three 18-hole courses. The Red opened in 2012 alongside the Blue, immediately attracting national attention as among the most unlikely great golf courses ever built.
