About Streamsong Resort — Blue Course
Streamsong Blue is Tom Doak's par 72 course at Streamsong Resort, near Fort Meade in central Florida. The land is a former phosphate strip mine, and mining left tall sand dunes, lakes and wild grass. Doak used wide fairways and large, heavily contoured greens, with big bunkers cut into the dunes. Elevation change and distance control matter.
- Blue shares the property with Coore and Crenshaw's Red course and Gil Hanse's Black course.
- Mosaic, the phosphate company, developed the resort, and its decades of mining produced the sand.
- Blue opened in 2012, together with the Red course.
- Golf Digest and Golfweek both rank Blue among the best public courses in the United States.
History of Streamsong Resort — Blue Course
Streamsong exists because of phosphate mining. The Mosaic Company worked the land for decades, and when the mining ended it left behind sand, hills and water instead of the typical Florida terrain. Mosaic turned the reclaimed ground into a golf resort and hired Tom Doak for Blue and Coore and Crenshaw for Red. Both courses opened in 2012, and Gil Hanse's Black course followed later.
Signature holes at Streamsong Resort — Blue Course
The 1st sets the tone: a short par 4 of 338 yards played from a tee set high on a dune down to a wide fairway edged by big bunkers. The 7th is the postcard hole, a par 3 that drops downhill over water framed by dunes. On the other side of the scale, the long par-4 11th is the hole that stronger players tend to single out.
When to play Streamsong Resort — Blue Course
Florida's golf season generally peaks in winter and spring, when the weather is dry and mild. Summers are hot and humid, so the heat is the main thing to plan around.
