About The Tryall Club
The Tryall Club is an 18-hole course in Hanover Parish, near Montego Bay, Jamaica. Ralph Plummer designed it on a 2,200-acre estate, and the course measures 6,836 yards. The routing follows the shoreline for part of the round and then climbs into forested hills.
- The Johnnie Walker World Championship was played here from 1991 to 1995, with players such as Nick Faldo and Ernie Els.
- LPGA Tour events have been held at Tryall, alongside the men's world championship.
- Shell's Wonderful World of Golf staged one of its televised matches on the course.
- Tryall is the venue for the Jamaica Open Golf Championship.
History of The Tryall Club
The land was formerly a sugar estate. Andrew Green led a renovation that began in 2016 and ran in two phases, with the back nine first. The work rebuilt the greens and renovated the bunkering and surrounding grading, to give the holes more shot variety and clearer lines of play.
Signature holes at The Tryall Club
The par-3 4th plays beside the Caribbean Sea, with the Flint River coming into play, and was added in the early 1990s. The 7th has an aqueduct and an 18th-century water wheel from the old sugar mill, and the shot is played through the aqueduct pillars.
When to play The Tryall Club
Jamaica's winter months, roughly December to April, are the driest and most comfortable for golf, while summers are hot and humid and hurricane season runs from June to November. Because play is arranged through the club, plan the round around your stay dates.
