Best Golf Courses in Jamaica

3 ranked courses in Jamaica

Jamaica has three clubs in this guide, all in or near Montego Bay: one at Sandy Bay in Hanover Parish and two at Rose Hall. The Tryall Club is Ralph Plummer's course of 6,836 yards on a 2,200-acre former sugar estate, and its routing follows the shoreline before climbing into forested hills. The par-3 4th, added in the early 1990s, plays beside the Caribbean Sea with the Flint River in play, and on the 7th the shot goes through the pillars of an aqueduct beside an 18th-century water wheel from the old sugar mill. Tryall staged the Johnnie Walker World Championship from 1991 to 1995, has held LPGA Tour events and a televised match for Shell's Wonderful World of Golf, and is the venue for the Jamaica Open Golf Championship. Andrew Green renovated it in two phases from 2016, rebuilding the greens and renovating the bunkering. At Rose Hall, Cinnamon Hill Golf Course opened in 1969 on former sugar plantation land about 350 feet above the Caribbean Sea, and Robert von Hagge and Rick Baril later redesigned it. Aqueduct remnants, sugar mill ruins and a burial ground stand on the course, the 14th passes Cinnamon Hill Great House, once the home of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, and a waterfall seen in Live and Let Die features on the 15th. Half Moon, also at Rose Hall, is Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s par 72 of 1962, a parkland course through a former sugarcane estate that stretches to 7,120 yards in a bowtie layout; Roger Rulewich later led updates.

About Golf Courses in Jamaica

Jamaica is warm all year, and the drier winter months are the most comfortable for golf, with early-morning and late-afternoon tee times the cooler choice. Cinnamon Hill is open to visitors, with tee times booked online through the Rose Hall Golf website or through the golf department. Half Moon has a hotel on site and an unlimited-golf package that covers both its own course and Cinnamon Hill. Tryall plays for members and guests staying on the property, so contact the club to arrange tee times before you travel.
