About The Honors Course
The Honors Course is a private 18-hole, par 72 course at Ooltewah, Tennessee, in Hamilton County north of Chattanooga, in a wooded setting, designed by Pete Dye and opened in 1983. Jack Lupton, a Coca-Cola bottling figure, founded the club, and the course was built with amateur championship golf in mind. Golf Digest ranks it as the best course in Tennessee, and it is regarded as one of Dye's best.
- The course sits in a secluded wooded valley and was shaped with little disruption to the land.
- From the back tees the course stretches beyond 7,300 yards in total length.
- The front nine is lined with trees, which gives the opening holes a closed-in look.
- The club has hosted national amateur events over the decades since it opened.
History of The Honors Course
Lupton chose to honor the amateur game and brought in Dye to design the course.
Signature holes at The Honors Course
No single hole stands out as much as the routing as a whole. The challenge comes from length and from tight corridors, and the course asks for steady, accurate golf.
When to play The Honors Course
The Honors Course is private, so the best time to play is whenever a member invites you. Tennessee summers are warm and humid, so spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons to play the woodland routing.
