About Rye Golf Club
Rye Golf Club is a links club at Camber on the East Sussex coast, near the town of Rye. The Old Course, its main test, is a par 68 laid across dune ground, and many shots are played from sloping or uneven lies.
- The 13th, known as the Sea Hole, is a blind two-shot hole with an approach played over a high dune ridge.
- The President's Putter is played at Rye every January.
- Rye was the first course Harry Colt designed, and it led him to leave a career in law for golf architecture.
- The closing holes, the 15th, 16th and 18th, are the course's signature finishing holes.
History of Rye Golf Club
Rye opened in 1894 among the Camber dunes. Harry Colt, a founder member and the club's first captain, designed the permanent 18 holes the following year. Tom Simpson altered the layout in 1932, and Sir Guy Campbell made changes in 1938. The course was damaged in the Second World War, and the club carried out its own restoration afterward.
Signature holes at Rye Golf Club
The par 3s are the strongest part of the course, and the 7th, with its elevated target and deep bunkers, is ranked the best of them. The 13th has a blind approach over the dune ridge.
Playing Rye Golf Club: tips
