About Royal Jersey Golf Club

Royal Jersey Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 70 links course at Grouville, on Jersey's coast, measuring about 6,190 yards. The club was laid out on Grouville Common in 1878 and carries a royal title. The clubhouse has a bar and dining room, and a professional shop supports visiting golfers.

  • Harry Vardon, winner of six Open Championships, is the club's most famous golfer.
  • Both Vardon and Ted Ray came from the club's caddie competitions.
  • Queen Victoria granted the royal title in 1879, only a year after the club was founded.
  • German gun emplacements from the wartime occupation are near the opening hole.

History of Royal Jersey Golf Club

The club dates to 1878, when a course was laid out on Grouville Common. The royal warrant followed in 1879. When the Germans occupied the Channel Islands in the Second World War, the course was turned into a minefield, and fortifications were built across the links.
