About Hankley Common Golf Club
Hankley Common Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 71 heathland course at Tilford, near Farnham in Surrey. James Braid and Harry Colt both shaped the layout, which plays across open, rolling ground. For an inland course it carries a surprisingly seaside feel, and Charles Lawrie called it one of the best inland layouts in Britain.
- The 7th is a par 3 played from one hilltop to another across a valley of heather.
- The 18th is a demanding finish, with a hollow in front of the green that approach shots must clear.
- Martin Ebert has restored the bunkers and greenside areas.
- Heather lines the fairways across the estate, and the high ground gives views over the course.
History of Hankley Common Golf Club
Hankley Common began in 1897 as a nine-hole course. James Braid extended it to a full 18 holes in 1922, and Harry Colt remodeled the layout in the 1930s. The club has since turned to Martin Ebert for restoration work, reshaping bunkers and the ground around the greens.
