About The Royal Golf Club

The Royal Golf Club at Riffa is led by the Montgomerie Course, an 18-hole, par 72 layout designed by Colin Montgomerie with European Golf Design. It aims for a links-style round in the desert, and its large, contoured greens give the course much of its character.

  • The club has a golf academy and a swimming pool.
  • The 2026 Bahrain Championship on the DP World Tour was decided in a playoff, won by Freddy Schott.
  • Wee Monty is a nine-hole par-3 course meant for learners and children.
  • The Volvo Golf Champions was played here in January 2011, the first European Tour event at the club.

History of The Royal Golf Club

The club grew out of the earlier Riffa Golf Club, whose grounds were reworked into the Montgomerie Course. It forms part of the Riffa Views development in Riffa, and the club has hosted the Bahrain Championship on the DP World Tour.

Signature holes at The Royal Golf Club

The large, contoured greens are a feature of the Montgomerie Course.

When to play The Royal Golf Club

Bahrain is very hot and humid in summer, so the cooler months from November to March are the best time for a round. The back nine is floodlit if you prefer to play after dark.
