About Quaker Ridge Golf Club

Quaker Ridge Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 70 course in Scarsdale, in New York's Westchester County. A. W. Tillinghast laid it out over gently rolling ground, and the club has stayed close to his intent through a long, sympathetic restoration led by Gil Hanse. The course turns up regularly in rankings of America's best, including the top 100 lists of Golf Digest and Golf Magazine, and it has served as the venue for international amateur team matches: the Walker Cup in 1997 and the Curtis Cup in 2018.

  • The founding members were wealthy Jewish businessmen of German descent whose applications at other clubs had been turned down.
  • Gil Hanse began consulting at Quaker Ridge in 2002 and went on to restore Tillinghast's original bunkering and character.
  • Tillinghast reworked seven existing holes and built eleven new ones to complete the 18-hole course in 1918.
  • After the club bought extra land in the mid-1920s, Tillinghast returned to rearrange the holes and extend the layout to its present form.

History of Quaker Ridge Golf Club

Quaker Ridge was formed in 1916, when a group of businessmen acquired the Scarsdale property. They brought in A. W. Tillinghast, who redesigned seven of the existing holes and added eleven new ones, finishing the 18-hole course in 1918. Gil Hanse started as a consultant in 2002 and led a sympathetic restoration over the years that followed, bringing back the character of Tillinghast's original work.

Signature holes at Quaker Ridge Golf Club

The 14th is a par 5 built around a wide cross-bunker hazard, one of the best-known Tillinghast features on the property. The 6th is a demanding par 4 where the tee shot sets up everything that follows. The 17th is a short par 4, a drive-and-pitch hole with a small green, and it is considered a pivotal hole in match play.

When to play Quaker Ridge Golf Club

Quaker Ridge sits in Westchester County, where the four seasons are distinct. Golf is at its best from late spring to early autumn, when fairways and greens are firm and fast. Summers can be humid, and winter in the northeast closes the course for months. For members and invited guests, May through October is the practical window for a round.
