About The Pulpit Club
The Pulpit Club is a private 36-hole club at Caledon, Ontario, and it includes The Paintbrush, an 18-hole, par 72 links-inspired course at Caledon East. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designed both courses. The Paintbrush is the Scottish-style one, with fescue, stone walls, pot bunkers and huge, undulating greens over rolling terrain. The Pulpit, the other course, is a parkland layout with big elevation changes.
- The 2023 Canadian Men's Amateur Championship used both courses, and McCulloch won it by five shots.
- Holes 11 and 14 share a double green with a tree growing in the middle of it.
- Stone ruins stand in the 8th fairway.
- The 477-acre property also has hiking, fishing ponds, a pool and winter activities.
History of The Pulpit Club
Haney and Abbott, the creators of Trivial Pursuit, founded the club. Devil's Pulpit opened in 1990, and Devil's Paintbrush followed in 1992. Longridge Partners purchased the Devil's Pulpit Golf Association in 2020, and in February 2021 the club was rebranded as The Pulpit Club, dropping Devil's from both course names. The club offers a Partner Membership model in which members hold an interest in the property's value.
Signature holes at The Pulpit Club
The 13th is a long par 3 with little room to bail out, a gully and out of bounds. The 17th is a par 4 with a stone wall and bunkers.
