Best Golf Courses in Ontario

12 ranked courses in Ontario

Ontario has 12 courses in this guide, the most of any Canadian province, and all 12 are parkland. Eleven are private. The exception is Muskoka Bay Resort in Gravenhurst, a semi-private Doug Carrick design routed through rocky ridges and wooded valleys, with green fees that vary by date and season. Toronto Golf Club in Mississauga has the earliest opening date, Harry Colt's 1912 course restored by Martin Hawtree; the club hosted the Canadian Open five times between 1905 and 1927. Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ancaster is also Colt's work, opened in 1916 and restored by Martin Ebert, and it has hosted seven Canadian Opens, the latest in 2024. Stanley Thompson designed two: St. George's Golf and Country Club in Etobicoke, Toronto, from 1929, and Westmount Golf & Country Club in Kitchener, which opened in 1931 and hosted the 1957 Canadian Open. Lookout Point Country Club in Fonthill is Walter J. Travis's 1922 course in the Niagara region. The newer clubs sit outside the city: The National Golf Club of Canada in Woodbridge, George Fazio and Tom Fazio's 1975 design; Beacon Hall Golf Club in Aurora, Bob Cupp's 1988 course; The Pulpit Club in Caledon, by Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, from 1992; and two in Uxbridge, Tom Fazio's Coppinwood Golf Club from 2006 and Martin Ebert's The Avalon Club. Öviinbyrd Golf Club at Foots Bay, Thomas McBroom's 2005 course, joins Muskoka Bay in cottage country.
