About Indian Creek Country Club
Indian Creek Country Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course on Indian Creek Island, a private island in Biscayne Bay off Miami Beach. William Flynn, working with Howard Toomey, designed it, and the setting is entirely built rather than found. The island was created from dredged material, so every rise, slope and green site was shaped by hand on what began as flat fill. That makes it a rare Golden Age layout where the whole landscape is a design decision.
- Where Flynn's plans showed large areas of sand, bunkers are now broken into small clusters spread through the landscape.
- Maurice Fatio, a Swiss-born architect, designed the clubhouse.
- Ron Forse carried out a restoration toward Flynn's original design before the more recent rebuild.
- A single guarded bridge links the island to the mainland and checks visitors at the gate.
History of Indian Creek Country Club
Flynn and Toomey designed the course for an island that did not exist before dredging in the early 1900s. The island was incorporated as a village in 1939 and now surrounds the course with a small gated community. In 2022 architect Andrew Green rebuilt the course, installing a new drainage system and reshaping the bunkers, with the stated aim of bringing back Flynn's character.
Signature holes at Indian Creek Country Club
Holes 11 through 14 are the stretch most often singled out, with the 13th drawing particular praise.
When to play Indian Creek Country Club
Because Indian Creek is private, the date is set by your host. Showers arrive almost daily through a Miami summer, so expect a round to be interrupted at least once if you are invited in those months.
Playing Indian Creek Country Club: tips
Indian Creek does not sell tee times or publish a green fee; a round means being sponsored by a member, and non-member access is extremely limited. The island is reached over a guarded bridge with a police checkpoint, so your host needs to clear your arrival in advance. Miami International Airport is the closest major airport.
