About Hamilton Golf & Country Club

Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ancaster, Ontario, is a 27-hole parkland club, and its signature 18 holes are the West and South nines that Harry Colt designed in 1914. The course plays to par 70 and gets its challenge from changes in elevation. A restoration directed by Martin Ebert reworked the greens and bunkering with the aim of completing Colt's original vision, and the club has used the layout to host the national open championship of Canada on multiple occasions.

  • The club has hosted seven Canadian Opens, in 1919, 1930, 2003, 2006, 2012, 2019 and 2024.
  • Champions here include Tommy Armour in 1930, Bob Tway in 2003, Jim Furyk in 2006, Scott Piercy in 2012 and Rory McIlroy in 2019.
  • Architect Robbie Robinson added the East Nine in 1974, which brought the club to 27 holes.
  • The restoration replaced the irrigation system and rebuilt the bunkers and greens in a style close to Colt's own.

History of Hamilton Golf & Country Club

Hamilton Golf Club was founded in October 1894 at a site on Barton and Ottawa streets and later moved to its current home in Ancaster. Harry Colt designed the West and South courses in 1914, and the course opened in 1916. In 2019 Martin Ebert began a restoration, which brought the layout back toward Colt's original design. Eighteen holes reopened in 2021 and the final nine in 2022.
