About Crooked Stick Golf Club
Crooked Stick Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 course in Carmel, Indiana, designed by Pete and Alice Dye. Dye had studied Scottish courses before he built it, and he brought pot bunkers and railroad-tie bulkheads to what was otherwise flat Indiana farmland. It stretches beyond 7,500 yards from the back tees. The result is a demanding inland test that has hosted major championships for both men and women.
- The 1993 U.S. Women's Open was played here and won by Lauri Merten.
- The 2005 Solheim Cup, the biennial women's team event between the United States and Europe, was played at Crooked Stick.
- Rory McIlroy won the 2012 BMW Championship here, and Dustin Johnson took the 2016 edition with a record 23-under score.
- The 2009 U.S. Senior Open was played here, and the championship returns to Crooked Stick in 2028.
History of Crooked Stick Golf Club
Crooked Stick opened in 1964 as the Dyes' own home club. It reached a national audience in August 1991, when John Daly won the PGA Championship here. Daly arrived as the ninth alternate, called up when Nick Price withdrew for the birth of his first child, and he played the week without a practice round.
