History of Club de Golf Chapultepec
Club de Golf Chapultepec's course was completed in 1921 on the edge of the Bosque de Chapultepec — one of the world's largest urban parks and a protected forest that has been associated with the Mexican capital since the Aztec era. Willie Smith began the design and, after his death, his brother Alex Smith completed it; Percy Clifford renovated the course in 1972. The result is a tree-lined parkland layout at 2,240 metres above sea level where the ball flies significantly further than at sea level. The club remained exclusive and under the radar internationally until the PGA Tour's WGC-Mexico Championship brought the world's top players to Chapultepec from 2017.
