About Baltimore Country Club

Baltimore Country Club is a private club in Maryland, and its East Course at Five Farms in Lutherville is the course that carries its reputation. A. W. Tillinghast designed the East Course, which plays to par 70, and Keith Foster restored it in 2015. The club is not a single site: it operates two campuses, one at Roland Park in the city and one at Five Farms. Play is for members and their invited guests, with no public tee sheet and no published green fee. Anyone visiting the area will find Baltimore/Washington International the nearest major airport, and Five Farms sits on Mays Chapel Road in Lutherville.

  • From the back tees the East Course measures 7,181 yards.
  • Five Farms also has the West Course, a par 72 redesigned in 1990 by Bob Cupp and Tom Kite.
  • The club operates two campuses, one at Roland Park in the city and one at Five Farms in Lutherville.
  • It has also hosted several Champions Tour events, adding senior championships to its record.

History of Baltimore Country Club

Baltimore Country Club has a long championship record. The U.S. Open came in 1899, the PGA Championship in 1928 and the U.S. Amateur in 1932. The Walker Cup followed in 1965, and the U.S. Women's Open arrived in 1988, with several Champions Tour events after that. The East Course at Five Farms is the work of A. W. Tillinghast, and Keith Foster restored it in 2015. The club also has a second 18 at Five Farms, the West Course.

Signature holes at Baltimore Country Club

Two par 5s define the East Course. The 6th is a dogleg where a long hitter can gamble by carrying a structure in the corner, which makes the tee shot a real decision. The 14th asks for a second shot across a large cross-bunker known as Hell's Half Acre. Both holes reward a player who plans the hole from the tee.

When to play Baltimore Country Club

Baltimore Country Club is private, so the best time is when a member can host you. There is no public season, and the club sells no tee times. Because the club has a record of hosting national championships, it is worth asking your host whether any events or course work could affect the dates you are considering.

Playing Baltimore Country Club: tips

There is no public access to the East Course. You need to be the guest of a member, and the club does not sell tee times or publish a green fee. The Five Farms campus is at 11500 Mays Chapel Road in Lutherville, and Baltimore/Washington International is the nearest major airport. Ask your host about dress, arrival time and caddies, since the club publishes little visitor guidance.
