About Aiken Golf Club

Aiken Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 70 course in Aiken, South Carolina, built in 1912 for winter visitors to the town. It is a hilly layout, with uphill, downhill and sidehill shots, and pines frame the holes without crowding them. Thoughtful shot selection counts for more than power here.

  • Sandy waste areas run through the course and give it a Pinehurst feel.
  • Blind shots appear on several holes.
  • A distinctive putting course beside the clubhouse gives players an unusual place to warm up.
  • The McNair family has run the club since buying it from the city in the late 1950s.

History of Aiken Golf Club

Aiken Golf Club opened in 1912 with 11 holes, built by the local business community as an attraction for winter travelers. The golf professional John Inglis added the final seven holes, and the 18-hole course was complete by 1915. The resort that had backed the course did not survive the Depression, and the city of Aiken stepped in to support it. Ownership later passed to the McNair family, who still operate it.

When to play Aiken Golf Club

Aiken Golf Club was created for winter visitors, and the cooler months are its traditional season. Reservations are required year-round, so book ahead whichever month you choose.
