About Terras da Comporta

Terras da Comporta is a coastal golf development on the Alentejo coast, south of Lisbon. David McLay Kidd, the architect behind Bandon Dunes, designed its Dunas course, a par-71, 18-hole layout that plays to about 7,268 yards. It is a modern links built on sandy ground among dunes, native vegetation and pines, with wide playing areas. The course is open to non-members, and the property has a driving range, practice greens, a pro shop and a restaurant.

  • The Dunas course covers 84 hectares at the edge of the Sado Estuary Nature Reserve.
  • It was named both World's Best New Golf Course and Europe's Best New Golf Course.
  • A second course, Torre, was designed by Sergio Garcia.
  • Irrigation uses treated wastewater, and the driving range runs to 310 meters.

History of Terras da Comporta

Espirito Santo launched the development, and it stalled after the 2014 collapse of Banco Espirito Santo. Vanguard Properties then revived it. The Dunas course officially opened in October 2023.

Signature holes at Terras da Comporta

The course is built around fairways that meander between dunes and clusters of native vegetation. Bunkering is bold and the green complexes are heavily contoured.

When to play Terras da Comporta
