Best Golf Courses in Portugal

5 ranked courses in Portugal

Portugal has five courses in this guide, and every one can be booked: three are public and two are resort courses. Three are parkland and two are links. Quinta do Lago's South Course in Almancil ranks highest: William Mitchell's 1974 design, a resort course open to visitors. Monte Rei in Vila Nova de Cacela, Jack Nicklaus's 2007 course, is the other resort course; anyone can book, but every visitor must provide a valid handicap certificate. Old Course Vilamoura, Frank Pennink's 1969 design remodeled by Martin Hawtree in the 1990s, is public and books online, by email or by phone. These three are the Algarve courses. The two links are elsewhere and both are newer. West Cliffs in Óbidos, Cynthia Dye's 2017 course, is bookable daily with a handicap limit of 36, and Terras da Comporta in Comporta, David McLay Kidd's 2023 course, is open to non-members through reception.

About Golf Courses in Portugal

The Algarve is a single trip: Almancil, Vila Nova de Cacela and Vilamoura hold three of the five. Óbidos (West Cliffs) and Comporta (Terras da Comporta) are the two links, each a separate stop from the Algarve and from each other.
