About Spyglass Hill Golf Course
Spyglass Hill Golf Course is an 18-hole, par 72 course at Pebble Beach, California, on the Monterey Peninsula. It is run by the Pebble Beach Company and plays like two courses in one. The first five holes run through sandy coastal dunes, with the Pacific in view from each of them. After the fifth the course turns inland into Del Monte Forest, where pines frame the tee shots, fairways bend and ponds and lakes guard some of the greens. The contrast between the open start and the closed-in finish is what golfers talk about most.
- Spyglass Hill is one of the courses used for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where it is usually seen as the tougher test.
- Every hole is named after a character or place from Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, which also gave the course its name.
- Caddies are available, and golf carts can also be hired.
- Fairways and greens are Poa annua grass throughout.
History of Spyglass Hill Golf Course
Robert Trent Jones Sr. designed Spyglass Hill, which opened in 1966. The Treasure Island theme runs through the whole layout, from the course name to every hole name, and the sandy start and forest finish have been its defining contrast ever since.
Signature holes at Spyglass Hill Golf Course
The 4th, Blind Pew, is a par 4 that Jones named as his favorite among all the par 4s he designed. It comes in the dune stretch, and after the fifth hole the course moves into the forest.
