Best Golf Courses in Western Cape

8 ranked courses in Western Cape

The Western Cape has eight clubs in this guide: five parkland courses, two coastal and one links. Five are resort courses, two are semi-private and Pinnacle Point Estate is public. Six of the eight are on the Garden Route, and George has three of them. The Links at Fancourt, a Gary Player design from 2000, was shaped as an inland links with pot bunkers, swales and hollows, and it staged the 2003 Presidents Cup. The Fancourt — Montagu Course is its parkland companion on the same estate, with the Outeniqua Mountains behind it. George Golf Club, founded in 1906, is a members' club that welcomes visitors by booking, and its back nine has three par 3s, three par 4s and three par 5s. Knysna has two. Simola Golf & Country Estate is a Jack Nicklaus Signature course from 2005 with five par 5s and five par 3s, looking over the Knysna River and lagoon, and Pezula Golf Estate is a clifftop course by Ronald Fream and David Dale of GolfPlan USA that opened in 2000. At Mossel Bay, Pinnacle Point Estate is a Peter Matkovich clifftop course from 2006, with elevated tees and ocean views. Away from the Garden Route, Arabella Golf Club at Kleinmond is a 1999 Matkovich design with eight holes beside the Bot River Lagoon, and Pearl Valley Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Paarl opened in 2003 with the Drakenstein Mountains rising on either side, and it has hosted the South African Open.

About Golf Courses in Western Cape

George is the natural base on the Garden Route, with The Links at Fancourt, the Montagu Course and George Golf Club in one town, and Pinnacle Point Estate at Mossel Bay also on the Garden Route. Simola and Pezula both take visitors, so two rounds fit one Knysna stay. Arabella at Kleinmond and Pearl Valley at Paarl make a separate trip, each with hotel or villa rooms on site.
