About Brora Golf Club

Brora Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 70 links on the Sutherland coast in the far north of Scotland. James Braid laid out the course, and the outward nine follows the curve of Kintradwell Bay with views toward the Sutherland hills. The turf is a mix of bent grass and beach sand, with burns and gorse in play. Brora is also a working farm, so sheep and cattle graze the links, and every green is ringed by an electric fence that players step over.

  • A railway line comes into play from the 10th tee.
  • The inward nine runs beside croft land, with out-of-bounds along the boundary fence.
  • Brora lies about 20 miles north of Dornoch.
  • The course is the home of the James Braid Golfing Society.

History of Brora Golf Club

Brora Golf Club was founded in 1891. The course golfers play today comes from James Braid, who redesigned it in the 1920s, and it has stayed largely as he left it. The club serves as home to the James Braid Golfing Society.

Signature holes at Brora Golf Club

The 9th is a par 3 played beside the beach. The 13th is another par 3 and one of the memorable holes. The round ends with an uphill par 3 of about 200 yards to a bunkered green, played in full view of the clubhouse.
