About Boston Golf Club
Boston Golf Club is a private 18-hole course at Hingham, Massachusetts. Gil Hanse laid it out as one of his early original designs, on wooded, hilly ground with sandy soil. Rough sand and waste areas rather than manicured bunkers frame many of the holes, and reviewers regularly describe the result as a modern-day Pine Valley. The routing mixes elevation change with wide fairways and green complexes built to reward ground-level approach shots.
- The par-5 15th is built around a large central bunker complex modelled on Pine Valley's Hell's Half Acre.
- Elevation changes and a handful of blind or semi-blind shots add variety to the round.
- The clubhouse and golf shop were designed by American furniture craftsmen, with custom oak and maple woodwork.
- The 7th is a 423-yard par 4 that asks for a forced carry and a well-judged approach to a sloping green.
History of Boston Golf Club
Boston Golf Club opened in the mid-2000s as a member-owned club, with Gil Hanse in charge of the design. It was one of his early original courses, and the club has stayed private ever since.
Signature holes at Boston Golf Club
The 6th is a short par 3 played over a sandy waste, and it is the hole most often compared with Pine Valley. The 18th finishes the round as an uphill par 3 to an elevated green beside the clubhouse.
When to play Boston Golf Club
Boston Golf Club is private, so your date depends on a member's invitation. The course is walked rather than ridden, and the hilly ground makes it a physical round, so choose a day when you are comfortable on foot.
