Best Golf Courses in Massachusetts
6 ranked courses in Massachusetts
All six Massachusetts courses in this guide are private. Myopia Hunt Club in South Hamilton ranks highest: Herbert C. Leeds's 1894 course, which has hosted the US Open. The Country Club in Brookline is the oldest, opened in 1882 with Willie Campbell's original course, William S. Flynn's Primrose nine from 1927 and Gil Hanse as current architect; it has hosted the US Open and the Ryder Cup. Essex County Club in Manchester-by-the-Sea is Donald Ross's 1893 design, restored by Renaissance Golf Design from about 2000. Two of the six are links: Eastward Ho! in Chatham, Herbert Fowler's 1922 course restored by Keith Foster, and Old Sandwich in Plymouth, by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. Boston Golf Club in Hingham is also by Hanse, a private, member-owned club that is played by members and their guests.
