About Sebonack Golf Club

Sebonack Golf Club is a private 18-hole, par 72 course at Southampton, on Long Island, New York. Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak designed it together, and the layout carries both architects' ideas, with contoured greens and rugged sand hazards. Fairways roll across sandy ground past waste dunes and large bunkers, and many holes look out over Great Peconic Bay. It looks quite different from its famous neighbours.

  • Inbee Park won the 2013 U.S. Women's Open here by four strokes over I.K. Kim.
  • Park's win made her the first woman since Babe Zaharias in 1950 to take the first three majors of a season.
  • The uphill par-5 9th is singled out as an example of the design's craftsmanship.
  • The par-5 18th plays home along the water.

History of Sebonack Golf Club

Sebonack opened in 2006 as the work of two architects with very different styles, Nicklaus and Doak. The course sits beside National Golf Links of America and Shinnecock Hills, and its design was shaped to take advantage of the sandy land. Its biggest event so far was the 2013 U.S. Women's Open.

Signature holes at Sebonack Golf Club

The 17th is a par 3 that plays beside the bay, and the closing 18th follows the water as well.

When to play Sebonack Golf Club

Sebonack is private, so timing depends on when a member invites you. The only widely public occasion so far was the U.S. Women's Open, played here from June 27 to 30, 2013.
