About Royal Harare Golf Club
Royal Harare Golf Club is an 18-hole, par 72 parkland course on 5th Street Extension in Harare, Zimbabwe. Golf has been played on its present ground since 1901, and the layout in use today dates from a major redesign in the 1990s. Alongside the course, the club runs a pro shop and a driving range.
- The club has been the main venue of the Zimbabwe Open professional tournament since 2010.
- A putting green sits beside the driving range, so warming up before a round is straightforward.
- Caddies and golf carts can be hired, and pull carts are on hand for walkers.
- Junior golf programs and a ladies' section run here, and the club has reciprocity arrangements with other clubs.
History of Royal Harare Golf Club
The club began as Salisbury Golf Club and took the name Royal Harare in 1980, after Zimbabwe gained its independence. In 1996 Nick Price and Steve Smyers redesigned the course, and the new layout was opened for play in 1997. That version is the one visiting professionals now face each year at the Zimbabwe Open.
