Best Golf Courses in Sri Lanka
4 ranked courses in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has four clubs in this guide: one in Colombo, two in the hill country and one on the southern coast. Royal Colombo Golf Club was founded in 1879 on Galle Face Green and moved in 1896 to the Model Farm at Borella, where it plays the Ridgeway Links, a par-71 parkland named after Governor Sir West Ridgeway. King George V granted the club its Royal prefix in 1928. Nuwara Eliya Golf Club, founded in 1889 by British tea planters, is an 18-hole par 71 of 6,399 yards in the town of Nuwara Eliya, surrounded by tea plantations, with visitor accommodation on its grounds. Near Digana in Kandy District, Victoria Golf & Country Resort is Donald Steel's 1999 par 73 above the Victoria Reservoir, on undulating terrain with the Knuckles Range on the skyline; it staged the first E-Wis Championship in July 2026. On the south coast, Shangri-La's Hambantota Golf Resort is Rodney Wright's 2016 course on the site of a former sapphire mine. It plays through three zones, the Coconut Plantation, the Dune Area with views of the Indian Ocean and the Sapphire Mine, on salt-tolerant paspalum grass.

About Golf Courses in Sri Lanka
Colombo is hot and humid all year, so Royal Colombo plays best with an early start; visitors arrange rounds through the club or a tour itinerary. Nuwara Eliya and Victoria, the latter about 30 minutes by road from Kandy, sit in the cooler hills, where showers are common, so pack a waterproof. Both take tee times in advance and both have rooms for an overnight stay. Hambantota books through the resort pro shop and welcomes non-guests, with caddies, carts and rental clubs on hand.
