Gauteng has six clubs in this guide, all of them parkland courses, four semi-private and two private, and all six sit in or around Johannesburg. Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Club has 36 holes. Its East course, designed by Robert Grimsdell and remodeled by Mark Muller, has staged the South African Open and hosted the 2025 Alfred Dunhill Championship. The club received its Royal title in 1931 and merged with Kensington Golf Club in 1998. Grimsdell also laid out The River Club in Sandton, a par 71 from 1967 where play is for members and their guests. Glendower Golf Club in Edenvale is a Charles Hugh Alison design built by A. F. Tomsett, with water in play on 11 holes and eight South African Opens to its name. Blair Atholl Golf & Equestrian Estate at Lanseria is a Gary Player course from 2007 on his former farm, more than 7,500 meters from the back tees and running along the Crocodile River; it hosted the SA Open in 2022 and 2023. Kyalami Country Club, between Johannesburg and Pretoria, was founded in 1954 and built its course a year later, and visitors can hire carts and rental clubs there. Ebotse Links in Benoni, on the East Rand, is a parkland course of links-style character built on a former quarry, with seven holes on the water around the Rynfield lake.
