Best Golf Courses in Puerto Rico

5 ranked courses in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico has five clubs in this guide, and the main course at each is an 18-hole par 72 on the coast: one at Dorado, one at Isabela on the northwest coast, two at Río Grande and one at Humacao on the southeast coast. At TPC Dorado Beach, Robert Trent Jones Sr.'s East Course is the layout most visitors come to play. His son Robert Trent Jones Jr. led an 18-month restoration that reopened it in November 2011, rebuilding all 18 greens, clearing trees to open sightlines to the ocean and adding roughly 700 yards. Its par-5 4th, the Z, doglegs twice around two ponds to a green set against the ocean, and the East has hosted PGA Tour Latinoamérica events; the property's second 18 is the Sugarcane Course. Royal Isabela, developed by Charlie and Stanley Pasarell with David Pfaff as architect, plays a hilly front nine through jungle before the back nine moves out to the cliffs above the Atlantic; the 9th is an island-green par 3 and the 17th a par 3 carried across a gorge. At Río Grande, Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s Bahía Beach lies in a 483-acre reserve around the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico, with the 16th and 18th along the Atlantic beach. Grand Reserve's Championship Course, a Tom Kite design, has hosted the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open since 2008. Palmas Athletic Club in Humacao plays Rees Jones's Flamboyán Course of 1998, 7,117 yards with views of the Caribbean Sea, alongside Gary Player's par-71 Palm Course.

About Golf Courses in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is warm all year; winter and spring are drier and less humid, and early tee times are the most comfortable in summer. TPC Dorado Beach, Royal Isabela, Bahía Beach and Grand Reserve all take visiting golfers as well as resort guests, and Grand Reserve books online or by phone. Royal Isabela's last tee time is 2 pm, and the course closes on Mondays from mid-April to mid-November. For a round at Palmas Athletic Club, call the club to ask about availability.
