Best Golf Courses in Malaysia
5 ranked courses in Malaysia
Malaysia has five clubs in this guide, four of them in and around Kuala Lumpur and one on the island of Langkawi. Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club occupies the Bukit Kiara hills inside the capital and runs two 18-hole courses, the West and the East. Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright designed the West Course, which opened in 1991 and was later rebuilt by Parslow & Associates; it has hosted the CIMB Classic, the Maybank Malaysian Open and Sime Darby LPGA Malaysia. Saujana Golf & Country Club in Shah Alam has 36 holes. Its Palm Course, laid out by Ronald Fream on a former oil palm estate and opened in 1986, is nicknamed the Cobra, while the Bunga Raya course is the Crocodile. The Palm has hosted the Malaysian Open, and its 216-yard par-3 2nd plays over a ravine. Also in Shah Alam, Kota Permai Golf & Country Club in the Kota Kemuning township is a 1998 Ross Watson parkland course with fast greens, and both the Malaysian Open and the Volvo Masters of Malaysia have been played there. The Mines Resort & Golf Club at Seri Kembangan, about 15 kilometers south of central Kuala Lumpur, is a Robert Trent Jones II course on the site of what was the world's largest open-cast tin mine; it hosted the 1999 World Cup of Golf, won by Tiger Woods. On Langkawi, The Els Club Teluk Datai is Ernie Els's 2014 course for the Datai Langkawi resort, running 6,760 yards between rainforest and the Andaman Sea.

About Golf Courses in Malaysia
Kuala Lumpur makes a natural base. Visitors can book the West Course at Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club through the club website or by phone, and a caddie is compulsory. Kota Permai takes visitor bookings online or through golf-travel agents, while Saujana arranges visitor play through the club or a booking agent rather than walk-ups. Confirm tee times at The Mines before traveling and allow road time from the city. Langkawi is an island, so reserve The Els Club ahead and plan the transfer.
