Best Golf Courses in the Dominican Republic
4 ranked courses in Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic has four clubs in this guide: two in La Altagracia Province around Punta Cana, one at La Romana and one near Cabrera on the north coast. Teeth of the Dog at Casa de Campo in La Romana is Pete Dye's par 72 of 1971, built after Gulf + Western Industries commissioned a resort there. Its name comes from the sharp coral limestone along the shore, which Dye used as a natural hazard, and seven holes play beside the Caribbean Sea, among them the par-3 5th, with the sea along its right side; the par-5 18th offers a second shot across a water inlet. At Cap Cana, Punta Espada Golf Club is a Jack Nicklaus Signature par 72 that opened in November 2006, with several holes along the Caribbean Sea. Its par-3 13th measures 250 yards from the back tee and is mostly carry, and the PGA Tour Champions has played its Cap Cana Championship there. At Puntacana Resort & Club, Tom Fazio's Corales is a par 72 of 7,670 yards with six holes on the sea and a closing stretch, holes 16 to 18, known as the Devil's Elbow. It is the venue of the PGA Tour's Corales Puntacana Championship, and P.B. Dye's 27-hole La Cana adds 14 ocean-view holes. Near Cabrera, Playa Grande Golf & Ocean Club began as a Robert Trent Jones Sr. course, and Rees Jones's renovation reversed holes to open up more views of the Atlantic. Ten holes play directly on the ocean, and the last five run along cliffs above the water.
