Best Golf Courses in China
5 ranked courses in China
China has five clubs in this guide, ranging from a walking-only links on a river island to a headland of cliffs, chasms and dunes on Hainan. Shanqin Bay Golf Club, at Longgun in Wanning on Hainan's south-east coast, is a Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw design that opened in 2012 on the site of a former coastal fort. It plays 6,894 yards to a par of 71 over seaside paspalum with the sea on three sides, and its membership numbers in the dozens. Shanghai has two clubs. Sheshan International Golf Club in Songjiang is a 2004 Nelson & Haworth course at the foot of Sheshan Mountain; it hosted 14 editions of the WGC-HSBC Champions between 2005 and 2019, and a deep rock quarry comes into play on its 16th and 17th. On Chongming Island, the Yangtze Dunes course at PGA Golf Club An Ying began as a Nicklaus Design layout and was rebuilt as a links by Ogilvy, Clayton, Cocking and Mead, reopening in 2018 with no cart paths. Older listings call the club Lanhai International. In Yunnan, Spring City Golf & Lake Resort near Kunming sets Robert Trent Jones Jr.'s Lake Course beside Yangzonghai Lake, with a Jack Nicklaus Mountain Course on the same property. Lotus Hill Golf Resort, laid out by Bernhard Langer and opened in 1996, sits in Panyu on the southern edge of Guangzhou.

About Golf Courses in China
Shanghai pairs Sheshan in Songjiang, a private club, with the Yangtze Dunes on Chongming Island, which needs generous travel time from the city. Spring City near Kunming is a stay-and-play base with two courses and a hotel on site. Lotus Hill suits a Guangzhou or Pearl River Delta visit, while Shanqin Bay, a long way from Haikou on Hainan, is played only on a member's invitation.
