Best Golf Courses in Belgium

5 ranked courses in Belgium

Belgium has five courses in this guide, all of them royal clubs in Flanders, and all five take visitors under their own terms. Three are semi-private and two are private. Two are links, two heathland and one parkland. Royal Zoute in Knokke-Heist, a private links where golf was first played in 1899, was begun by Harry Colt, and its present courses follow plans drawn up by Lieutenant Colonel Allen after the war. Visitors need a handicap certificate and a handicap of 24 or lower on the Championship Course on weekdays, or 36 on the Executive Course. Royal Ostend in De Haan, a semi-private links from 1903 by Seymour Dunn, was redesigned by Martin Hawtree in the 1990s and also requires a certificate. Royal Antwerp in Kapellen, founded in 1888, has played on its Kapellenbos site since a Willie Park Jr. course of 1910, which Tom Simpson reworked around 1930, sets a maximum handicap for the Simpson course. Royal Limburg in Houthalen-Helchteren, Fred Hawtree's 1968 heathland course, is the most open: visitors book through the secretary's office from 09:00 to 18:00, and the adult rate applies up to a handicap of 30.4. Royal Golf Club de Belgique in Tervuren, Dunn's 1906 parkland course, is by prior arrangement.
