Best Golf Courses in Argentina

5 ranked courses in Argentina

Argentina has five clubs in this guide: two in the suburbs of Buenos Aires, two in the Patagonian Andes and one in the sierras of Córdoba. In San Isidro, north of the capital, the Jockey Club was founded in 1882 as a horse racing institution and plays two 18-hole courses, the Red and the Blue. Alister MacKenzie designed the Red, a flat par 72 of 6,577 yards from 1935, and the club has hosted the Argentine Open on several occasions. Buenos Aires Golf Club at Bella Vista is Robert von Hagge's 27-hole club of 1994, three nines called Green, Yellow and Blue with water hazards across the layout. Tiger Woods and David Duval won the World Cup of Golf there in December 2000, and the Abierto de la República, the national open, followed in December 2007. Near Bariloche, the Llao Llao Hotel Golf Course runs through coigüe forest and along the shore of Lake Moreno; the par 71 began as Luther Koontz's nine of 1940, and Emilio Serra extended it to 18 holes in 1993-94. In Neuquén, Chapelco Golf & Resort at San Martín de los Andes is a par 72 by Jack Nicklaus and Jack Nicklaus II, routed through native forest, streams and lagoons with minimal change to the land; the Argentina Classic of PGA Tour Latinoamérica moved there in 2018. El Potrerillo de Larreta at Alta Gracia is a par-72 resort course by Ángel Reartes, crossed by streams among rocky hills, on land that was once a Jesuit estancia.

About Golf Courses in Argentina

Spring and autumn suit both Buenos Aires clubs best, away from the hot, humid summer. The Jockey Club needs a member introduction or a letter from your home club, and Buenos Aires Golf Club takes invited guests and escorted tour groups. Llao Llao takes day visitors as well as hotel guests but is closed from June to August, and Chapelco plays best from spring to early autumn; it books through its golf office. El Potrerillo de Larreta books through the golf office or a stay-and-play package at the hotel.
