Best Golf Courses in Costa Rica
5 ranked courses in Costa Rica
Costa Rica has five courses in this guide: four coastal resort courses on the Pacific and one private parkland club near San José. Cariari Country Club at La Asunción de Belén, in Heredia, is George Fazio's 18-hole, par 71 course, opened in 1973 on a former coffee plantation and later reworked by Mike Young. It hosted the Costa Rica Open in 2006 and 2007, sits about five minutes from the airport, and is a private club. Mike Young also designed The Golf Course at Hacienda Pinilla in Santa Cruz, Guanacaste, which opened in 2001 and is open to the public; the par-3 15th on the back nine has ocean views. Farther up the Guanacaste coast, Reserva Conchal Golf Club at Playa Conchal is a Robert Trent Jones II par 71 from the 1990s, played by guests of The Westin and W Costa Rica and by community members. The Ocean Course at Peninsula Papagayo, Arnold Palmer's 6,788-yard layout at the Four Seasons, has ocean views from 14 of its 18 holes and is kept for resort guests and estate owners. All three Guanacaste courses hold Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary status. At Playa Herradura in Puntarenas, La Iguana Golf Course is Ted Robinson's 6,698-yard course at the Los Sueños Marriott, open to the public and sold in stay-and-play packages.
